Abstract:The paper describes a real-time lossless data compression algorithm for both individual band and multi-spectral remote sensing images. This approach uses prediction to reduce the redundancy and classical Huffman coding to reduce the average code length. Several kinds of predictions were studied and the 2-D prediction was selected. Some simplifications were taken in the Huffman coding for real-time use. A comparison between the coding methods was discussed. The scheme was applied to the 8 bits/pixel, original images of LANDSAT TM, SPOT HRV, AIR SAR and imaging spectrometer by software emulation. An average compression ratio of 2, with the highest value of 3.1 and the lowest value of 1.2 for the radar images, was achieved.

Abstract:The transmittance of the wedge filter covering the detective elements of the detector array is simulated via the gradient properties of the linear wedge filter. The wedge filter for multi-channel detector array is analyzed and designed.

Abstract:The investigation of optical glass waveguides for liquid density measurement with large diameters in various shapes is reported. The dependence of sensitivity on the bending radius was calculated. The measurement system in the near infrared waveband was set up. Various bending waveguides were measured, and the results of measurement are nearly in agreement with the theoretical analysis.

Abstract:The influence of variation of bare ground terrain emissivity on its infrared radiance statistics under wind conditions is analyzed by Monte-Carlo simulation. The radiance is governed by the heat balance equation in which the sensible heat exchange and sky thermal radiation are under consideration. The results show that, because of emissivity variation, the contrast of a thermal image of bare ground terrain will become sharp obviously and the skewness and kurtosis of the radiative temperature distribution will also change accordingly.

The optimal small-signal transmissivity of dye solution used was analyzed. And the stability of this type of resonator was experimentally studied and theoretically analyzed.
