    Abstract:

Tellurium-based chalcogenide fibers have excellent transmission properties in the spectral range from 2 μm to 16 μm. In recent years, they have been paid much attention as the long-wave infrared transmitting materials. The research history and status of tellurium-based chalcogenide fibers are reviewed. The fabrication approaches for fabricating tellurium-based chalcogenide fibers, such as double crucible, rod-in-tube, multi-material stacked coextrusion and multi-material rod-in-tube coextrusion, and their characteristics are analyzed and summarized. The potential applications and prospects of the fibers are discussed.
