    Abstract:

Tianwen-2 is China""s first asteroid exploration mission, which aims to conduct comprehensive investigations of the near-Earth asteroid 2016 HO3 and the main-belt comet 311P. The Visible and Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (VIRIS), as one of the key payloads onboard Tianwen-2, is designed to acquire hyperspectral data in the spectral range of 0.45–4.5 μm for investigating the surface composition and evolutionary history of extraterrestrial bodies. VIRIS adopts a dual-channel common-aperture configuration, including a visible and near-infrared (VNIR) channel (0.45–1.6 μm) and a short- and mid-wave infrared (SMIR) channel (1.55–4.5 μm), which enables effective detection of diagnostic absorption features of pyroxene, olivine, hydrated minerals, and organic materials. This paper systematically presents the calibration scheme of VIRIS, including the methods and results of spectral calibration, radiometric calibration, and geometric calibration. The results indicate that the average spectral resolution of VIRIS is better than 6.55 nm in the VNIR spectral range and better than 9.98 nm in the SMIR spectral range. The uncertainty of absolute radiometric calibration is better than 9.1% in the VNIR range and better than 8.4% in the SMIR range, and the geometric pointing accuracy is better than 0.009°. Furthermore, observation and calibration modes of VIRIS, as well as the characteristics of its data products, are introduced.
